WWE star John Cena is another wrestling champion who has made a successful foray into mainstream Hollywood. The athlete was first seen in The Marines in 2006 and gained fame with his portrayal of the antagonist in the 9th installment of The Fast and The Furious franchise. F9 earned him the distinction of being arguably one of the best male villains in the franchise.
Cena also made a successful entry into the superhero leagues with his portrayal of DC’s Peacemaker in the television series of the same name. Cena joins fellow athletes Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista as WWE stars who have successfully ventured into cinema. But according to reports, the 3 wrestling stars who also share a commonality in having played Marvel and DC superheroes, may never work together on a project.
Dave Bautista Turns Down Offer to Work With John Cena
It isn’t often that 3 WWE champions of the same era have parallelly successful careers in Hollywood. John Cena, Dwayne Johnson, and Dave Bautista have taken their artistry from the wrestling arena onto the silver screen. The automatic question that then arises is the possible exciting collaboration between the 3 athletes in a film. Unfortunately, audiences may never get to see this materialize on the screen. Dave Bautista raised a few eyebrows with his comments about not wishing to work with either John Cena or Dwayne Johnson.
After receiving criticism on social media, the actor followed up by clarifying that it was nothing personal and was warranted by his choice of wanting to play diverse characters at this point in his career. While many viewers felt that this comment was in poor taste considering that Cena and Johnson came from the same background, John Cena was gracious in his response regarding Bautista’s statements. The F9 star said,
“Yeah, man I’m super sad about that because Dave Bautista is an unbelievably gifted actor. He’s done some amazing work. But I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try and look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft and he is so dedicated to his characters and really wants to put forth a body of work that gives him his own identity. I 100% understand that”
Following his dignified reply to Bautista’s comments, John Cena backed it up by praising his WWE colleague by calling him one the nicest and most generous people with whom he shared a great rapport.
John Cena Has An Exciting Film Lineup
Hollywood has always been a fertile creative ground for wrestling champions to take their artistry to the big screen. Peacemaker star John Cena is someone who has successfully forayed into the movie space with prominent roles in commercial blockbusters and superhero franchises. The actor, who is still an active WWE star, has his hands full with exciting film projects in the pipeline.
To begin with, Cena will reprise his role as the Peacemaker in Season 2 of the hit DC series which is due to stream sometime this year. The star will also feature prominently in big summer blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and the spy thriller Argylle. F9 fans are also in for a treat as Cena will be back for the 10th installment of the franchise to take his character Jakob to the next level.
