Jimmy Kimmel Regrets Accepting Oscars 2023 Host Gig, Reveals Miniscule Salary: "This one's actually gonna cost me money"

With the 95th academy awards approaching closer, Jimmy Kimmel is once again set to return for hosting the prestigious Award ceremony in 2023. But it seems that it isn’t the most pleasant job for the comedian, as the last time he agreed to host the Oscars, it didn’t turn out much profitable for Kimmel.

Even though the comedian is set to return for his third stint hosting the prestigious Academy Awards, it seems that the actor wasn’t too happy about his last paycheck for the job. As it appears that despite the importance of the job, the hosts of the Ceremony aren’t paid handsomely for their work.

Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t paid much for hosting the Oscars

In an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live,  Regina Sykes was expressing her experience of co-hosting the 93rd Academy Awards alongside Regina Hall and Amy Schumer. The comedian then went on to joke about the minuscule salary that she was reportedly paid for hosting the Award Ceremony. But it seems that it wasn’t only Sikes but Kimmel too, who wasn’t paid much by the Academy.

Regina Sykes jokingly explained the situation by stating,

“I was excited about [hosting], but then I realized that out of all the jobs that I have, this one is gonna cost me money,”

To which Kimmel replied,

“I got paid $15,000 to host the Oscars. And there’s one of me! You guys will probably have to split that.”

Although the amount did shock the audience considering the amount of time the hosts put into their preparation for hosting the Oscars. But it seems that they aren’t the only ones who were allegedly paid poorly by the Academy, as back in 2013, Alec Baldwin also voiced his opinion on the situation.

Alec Baldwin, who previously hosted the 82nd Academy Awards alongside Steve Martin in 2010, expressed his distaste over the salary for hosting the ceremony. Back in 2013, without revealing any exact amount, the actor went on to criticize the low amount that they were paid for hosting the Award show. He said,

“They don’t pay you any money; the Oscars pay you like chicken feed. It’s all about the honor of helping to extol film achievement.”

But with Jimmy Kimmel arriving for his third stint of hosting the Oscars, it appears that the amount isn’t the main factor for them. And it is more about the exposure they can get by hosting this prestigious ceremony, which can provide a massive boost to their career.
