Paul Dano‘s Riddler was a step away from the somewhat comical portrayal of Jim Carrey’s Riddler. It was dark, vile, and sadistic. Dano’s approach to the character was to show him as unhinged as a serial villain should be. While critics applauded his Riddler, putting it next to only Heath Ledger’s Joker, Carrey wasn’t all too impressed.

“I’ve not seen it. It’s a very dark version. I have mixed emotions about it. To each his own and all that. I love him as an actor. He’s a tremendous actor.”

The one thing that upset The Mask actor the most was Paul Dano’s idea to cover Riddler’s head in plastic wrap. Expressing his dislike of the idea, Carrey said,

“There’s a spot of worry in me over gaffer-taping people’s faces and encouraging people to do the same. Some sickos out there that might adopt that method. I do have a conscience about the things I choose. Robotnik has cartoon bombs, and no one gets hurt. I know there’s a place for it, and I don’t want to criticize it, but it’s not my kind of thing … it’s very well done. Those movies are very well done.”

While Jim Carrey is not too fond of movies like last year’s The Batman, he still went on to say the movie was well made as well as praised Dano for his meticulous acting.

The comedic genius is known as one of the most prolific method actors of all time. His peculiar style and unparalleled humor are enough to make a grown man cry. However, the legendary actor has said his goodbyes to the world of acting after the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 last year. Speaking about him leaving Hollywood, Carrey said,

“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.”

Although he did mention that he is open to coming back if by chance some excellent piece of script written in gold ink comes to him, for now, he is taking an indefinite break. Jim Carrey is too fond of his quiet life now after spending almost 5 decades in the film industry. Adding on, he mentioned,

“This is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

While we certainly miss the actor on the big screen, we can’t help but agree that after the work he has done, he does deserve a much-needed break.

You can stream Batman Forever on Amazon Prime Video.
