Jennifer Lawrence is a powerhouse of talent who gained action-heroine status with her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series. However, she was already an established star with her X-Men series role. She has continued to impress the viewers outside the screen with her interesting stories but not everything always ends up well.
Jennifer Lawrence Scratched Her B*tt With Sacred Hawaii Rocks
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2016, Jennifer Lawrence talked about an incident that happened when she was filming Hunger Games in Hawaii. She was told not to sit on the stones however she couldn’t help herself after being in the wetsuit for a long time.
She shared,
“We were filming in Hawaii and there were sacred rocks. And they were, I don’t know, they were ancestors. Who knows? They were sacred and you’re not supposed to sit on them because you’re not supposed to expose your genitalia to them.”
“I, however, was in a Wetsuit for the whole shoot. … (And) oh my good, they were so good for butt itching!”
Due to her actions, the rock came loose and rolled toward a technician.
“It was a giant boulder and it rolled down this mountain and almost killed our sound guy.”
She shared that the Hawaiians were shocked and reacted, ‘Oh my God. It’s the curse.’ Meanwhile, Lawrence who was standing in the corner knew the curse was no one but hers. However, this incident didn’t fit well among the netizens.
Jennifer Lawrence Eventually Issued an Apology
“From Jen, to the internet” she said. “I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people.”
She continued,
“I really thought that I was being self deprecating about the fact that I was ‘the curse’ but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny and I apologize if I offended anyone.”
This incident happened in 2012 with Kahokulua Haiku, a Hawaiian cultural expert who was assigned to assist the Hunger Games production team.
“It’s an ancient Hawaiian living site and there are several hundred burial caves right in that area.”
He was the one who explained the importance of the rocks to the natives. Not just that, he even scolded everyone in the area to be more careful when the rock was rolled away. Though the incident was serious, the expert mentioned that the rock was not part of the burial site.
