Before becoming a DC superhero, Jason Momoa’s claim to fame was the hugely popular HBO series Game Of Thrones. The Aquaman actor played the character of Khal Drogo in the adaptation of George R.R Martin’s novel and received high praise for his commanding performance in the series. Game Of Thrones also created many talking points around the graphic nature of its content which showcased a disturbing amount of physical and s*xual violence. Jason Momoa expressed his discomfort in speaking about these aspects when asked to comment on the series.
“A Bad Feeling In My Stomach”, Says Jason Momoa
During an interview, Jason Momoa was asked about depictions of s*x, violence, and r*pe in Game of Thrones and his personal views on filming scenes of this nature. Responding to journalist David Marchese’s questions about the impact and relevance of these visuals today, Momoa expressed his discomfort and said,
I was bummed when you asked me that. It just feels icky – putting it upon me to remove something.”
Speaking of the infamous scene where Khal Drogo rapes his new wife played by Emilia Clarke, Jason Momoa said that it was one of the toughest parts of the film considering the brutal nature of the incident. The actor revealed his dilemma by saying,
“It was a, really, really hard thing to do. But my job was to play something like that, and it’s not a nice thing, and it’s what that character was”.
Momoa went on to add that as an actor, he did not have the choice to make decisions about the kind of scenes that a film or a series warranted. When probed further, the star confessed that though he had no regrets about filming the scene, he will never do it again under any other context.

Jason Momoa Is Not A Stranger To Controversy
While Jason Momoa took offense to the line of questioning about s*xual violence depicted in his show Game Of Thrones, the star has earlier been quoted making controversial statements about similar topics. During the 2011 Comic-Con, the actor joked about loving sci-fi and fantasy as genres saying,
“because there are so many things you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it, and r*pe beautiful women”.
While the statement elicited laughter from the crowd, Momoa was quick to spot trouble brewing and went into damage control before his comment was blown out of proportion. In an Instagram post, the actor issued an apology that read,
I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day. I know my sincerest apology now won’t take away those hurtful words. … I made a truly tasteless comment. It is unacceptable and I sincerely apologize with a heavy heart for the words I said.”
Following this incident, the DC star has been more cautious and aware of his comments in public. This could also have been the reason that Momoa felt cornered in the interview with David Marchese and the probing albeit valid questions that the journalist posed to him.
