James Mangold is one of the most decorated film directors of Hollywood in today’s generation. Apart from directing, he also works as a screenwriter and producer on many occasions. Mangold has worked with almost all of the big multi-billion dollar franchises out there, like the MCU, DCU, or Star Wars. Currently, Mangold is busy directing and co-writing the last movie of the Indiana Jones series, although it is already in its post-production stage.
While James Mangold is a very open-minded person, his views towards superhero franchises are quite different when compared to others. Mangold’s upcoming project with DCU will have him writing the script of Swamp Thing and many are excited as to how the script will turn out under Mangold.
James Mangold to Write and Direct Swamp Thing
James Mangold is one of the most talented scriptwriters and directors out there, with his vast expertise and knowledge of today’s culture he is able to form movies far beyond one’s comprehension. Mangold takes into consideration people’s feelings and perspectives while working on a project and it is one one the many reasons why he is such a successful individual, highly wanted in the industry. He has proven himself with superhero movies on multiple occasions, directing two of the Wolverine movies, and this time around Mangold seems to have taken an interest in DCU.
“While I’m sure DC views ‘Swamp Thing’ as a franchise, I would be viewing it as a very simple, clean, Gothic horror movie about this man/monster. I have been toying for years with the idea of making a kind of Frankenstein movie.”
During an interview with Collider, James Mangold confirmed that he would be writing Swamp Thing and James Gunn followed up the statement adding that he would be directing it too. The director has put a bit of emphasis on how the MCU is bringing back Hugh Jackman’s Logan in 2024 alongside Deadpool even after he was given a proper ending and claims that DCU’s Swamp Thing will be such a movie that it will definitely top his MCU creation, Wolverine. Furthermore, it is to be noted down that the filmmaker is a very big fan of Swamp Thing and Mangold will literally go above and beyond for its success.
What More To Expect From James Gunn’s Gods and Monsters
Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is the result of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s hard work for the past couple of months and so far the details surrounding the situation have not disappointed anyone. Chapter 1 mainly focuses on exposing the underdog superheroes and supervillains to the world, presenting them to the spotlight instead of running with the already established ones. For the past decade, the superhero franchise spotlight has always gone to MCU but currently, things might change when Gods and Monsters will be brought into play.
Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters will have many movies and tv shows. The movies are Superman: Legacy, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing. The television series will have Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold. While not much is shared or released about these movies and tv shows, it has shown promise and will most probably give Marvel a run for its money. Chapter 1 will start with Superman: Legacy which will premiere at the theatres on 11 July 2025.
