Portraying the role of Mestre Karja in the 2023 movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Nathan Fillion has been prone to work alongside James Gunn for many years. The actor was also the one who starred in James Gunn’s directorial debut back in 2006 in the movie Slither.

With the DCU being under the control of James Gunn and Peter Safran, it seems that the new Green Lantern has been cast. The original role was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds back in 2011 but was so negatively received that the character was never used again. In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, several actors have been confirmed in various roles for the upcoming magnum opus, and as per the reports, Nathan Fillion is Green Lantern in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

There is one catch, although, Fillion has been cast in the role of Green Lantern by James Gunn, he won’t be portraying the character of Hal Jordan. Nathan Fillion will apparently play the role of Guy Gardner. And from what the sources are telling, Guy Gardner sounds pretty similar to Iron Man.

From what the reports tell us, the character of Guy Gardner will be quite different from the two iterations of Green Lantern i.e., Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Gardner will be obnoxious and will bring an awkward comedy into the serious battles of Superman: Legacy.

People indeed wish that the DCU would not screw up the character of Green Lantern this time. James Gunn did screw up the character of Barry Allen with the release of the Ezra Miller starrer The Flash as the movie simply did not meet people’s expectations. Alongside Nathan Fillion, David Corenswet has been cast in the lead role of Superman while Rachel Brosnan will portray his love interest with the character of Lois Lane.

With an ensemble cast of various actors and James Gunn in the director’s chair, Superman: Legacy is set for a release date of 11th July 2025 for a theatrical release in the U.S.
