For the better part of the past couple of months, DC’s new co-Chairman and CEO, James Gunn, has managed to keep the critics at bay and the audience moderately invested. With his Guinness-worthy record of causing the most divisive moments in the history of this CBM franchise since its establishment, Gunn moves ever so precisely toward an end goal to revive DC to its former glory.
And in order to do that, a few wrinkles had to be straightened out and some difficult ones removed entirely. To date, the mass sentiments that have never quite come to grips with the fact of losing Henry Cavill – twice! – still, look for answers in words left unsaid and by reading between the lines.

One of the primary aspects of having James Gunn taking over as the DC universe’s keeper is the vision and ambition that he brings to the picture. Neither a megalomaniacal genius nor an eccentric visionary, Gunn’s perfectly balanced understanding of what the fallen franchise needs to rise again is a task that needs as much ruthlessness as clemency. Henry Cavill was a victim of the former while Jason Momoa (for reasons yet unknown) was on the receiving end of the latter.
In a new update on Twitter, however, the still-sore fans have perhaps found an answer after a months-long search for a reasonable explanation behind Cavill’s dismissal from DC, even from a contingent multiversal Elseworlds story. James Gunn has made it clear that the road ahead lies paved with actors from all over the industry, speckled with rising stars as well as familiar faces. But in his reply, there lies the contentious phrase: “What matters most is the actor fits the role & they’re easy to work with.”
When left up to the fans to deconstruct, the message is indicative of Henry Cavill not being an easy actor to work with, since it has clearly been established that he fits the role of Superman like no other. But as far as ease and compatibility are concerned, Cavill’s retirement arises from his imposing and overshadowing presence as a subject of Snyder rather than his difficult nature (which the audience knows is a reach because of his infamous and highly professional work ethic).

The current plans will include the immediate origin stories arc set up over the coming 3 to 4 years. The ensuing extensive plans, commissioned and reiterated by Warner Bros. Discover chief, David Zaslav, includes an interconnected universe spread out over a decade, culminating in an MCU-like event.
According to Gunn, the formative blueprint has been done and dusted with and parts of the finalized slates will be announced in the coming weeks.
