Amidst the underwhelming reception of DC’sThe Flash, there is speculation emerging about the potential discontinuation of Ezra Miller’s future endeavors portraying the beloved character. Following a nearly ten-year journey to fruition, Ezra Miller’s standalone film has, at last, graced the silver screen, but its impact has been far from extraordinary.
Describing its reception as lackluster would be a gross understatement. Critics have awarded the movie with mediocre reviews, currently resting at a modest 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the film’s financial prospects appear grim, with the potential for a loss exceeding $200 million due to an extensive marketing campaign and disappointingly modest box office returns.
Is DC Removing Ezra Miller From Future Projects?
Before The Flash hit theaters, Warner Bros. appeared to have ambitious aspirations for Ezra Miller’s portrayal of the speedy superhero. While the involvement of James Gunn and Peter Safran in overseeing the franchise raised uncertainties about those plans, it still conveyed the impression that Miller was merely scratching the surface of their journey as the character.
In October, prior to the announcement of the Gunn/Safran takeover, revelations emerged that the studio had commenced development on The Flash 2, complete with an already crafted script.
According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, it was reported that former DC Films head Walter Hamada had originally outlined a roadmap for Ezra Miller’s highly anticipated solo debut as the Speedster, envisioning a subsequent sequel, followed by a cinematic adaptation of the beloved DC Comics storyline from the 1980s, Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Throughout the year 2022, the DC actor found themselves embroiled in a series of legal troubles, amassing a significant list of charges, including felony burglary, second-degree assault, and harassment.

The Biggest Flop In The Superhero Genre?
Had Ezra Miller’s high-velocity film set the world ablaze, generating substantial box office revenue, it might have painted a different picture in which Warner Bros. set aside Miller’s recent troubles and expedited the production of a sequel. But that scenario did not materialize. The movie’s opening fell short of expectations, garnering a modest $55 million in domestic earnings.
Subsequently, the movie experienced a staggering 72.5% decline in ticket sales from its inaugural weekend to its second, followed by an additional 62.5% drop from the second to the third weekend. Considering the film’s rumored $220 million budget and Warner Bros.’s nearly $150 million investment in promotional efforts, it is highly probable that The Flash will incur a loss surpassing $200 million for the studio.
With a projected loss of $200 million, The Flash would secure its place as the most colossal superhero movie failure ever, as well as the most significant box office disappointment in Warner Bros.’s century-long history. These dire financial circumstances strongly suggest that Warner Bros. and DC Studios may choose to cut ties with Ezra Miller.
The Flash will soon be available on HBO Max.
