James Gunn Disses Ezra Miller, Says The Flash isn't the First Movie of DCU: "For sure...the first DCU movie is...."

James Gunn is one of the most talented and driven movie directors of the present time. He has given some of the biggest hits over the years. He moved into the superhero genre in 2010 and hit a jackpot with Chris Pratt’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Gunn was hired along with Peter Safran for the co-chairmen roles and co-CEOs of the redeveloping DC Studios. The newest project of DCU, The Flash, is going to hit theatres soon.

On being asked about the difference in the tone, style, and approach in storytelling in MCU and DC, Gunn shared,

“I don’t think that there’s any you know I don’t think you can because relatively the MCU and now the DCU in the film which really doesn’t start I mean the first DCU character for sure is Blue Beetle in the First full DC movie DCU movie is Superman. ”

“Now that that’s happening it’s relatively new. The same thing is with Marvel I mean even MCU is relatively new, so I don’t know if there is any innate things about tone because I think that what both MCU and DCU need to do is to have a wider range of tones than they presently do.”

The upcoming The Flash movie will be one of the last DCEU projects from before Gunn and Safran took over the reins of DC Studios. DC Studios co-CEO confirmed that his Superman: Legacy film will be the first DC Studios film.

Director James Gunn points out the differences between DCU and MCU

Gunn shared in the podcast that MCU has very few superheroes. There are few traditional superheroes, and there was never a hero with a secret identity until Spider-Man. He added that in MCU their captain was turned into a soldier even though he wore a mask.

He added that in DCU, there is a bit more of a fantasy element because there are larger-than-life superheroes.

He shared,

“For me, you know there’s Superman and Clark Kent like they’re two different characters, and you have to find a whale to deal with them that’s as grounded as possible within this world of DC. One of the things I love about DC and that excites me about DC is that in a way it is. It’s another alternate history, it is Gotham City and metropolis and Star City and Bloodhaven, and you know all these different places in this other reality, and it makes it a little bit like Westeros in some ways. I love that about it I love that we get to create True World buildings in DC, it isn’t just we’re throwing some superheroes on Earth. I think that right now, that’s one of the key differences.”

James Gunn is presently busy in the pre-production of his upcoming DC film, Superman: Legacy, which connects Superman’s Earth life to his Kryptonian life.
