With DC massively shifting from its roots after the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran in the office, DC is inching towards a full reboot, which will mark the end of the struggling DCEU. But the DCEU actors that will be moving forward in the next chapter of DC may include Viola Davis too.
Although it’s reasonable to assume that the storylines from the old universe aren’t moving forward in the new one, but some actors from the DCEU will be an important factor in the new DCU. And it seems that the A.R.G.U.S Boss, Amanda Waller will too have a major role in the new universe.
Viola Davis to move forward in the new DCU
With the reshuffle going on in the DC universe, it appears that James Gunn is adamant about scrapping the old scattered DCEU and building a more cohesive universe. And even though the storylines from the DCEU may not move forward, some actors from the previous universe will be continuing their journey in the new James Gunn-led DCU, including Jason Momoa, and most probably Viola Davis.
In a recent Instagram story, James Gunn teased the future of the infamous head of Task Force X Amanda Waller, portrayed by Viola Davis. The actress made her first appearance as the ruthless boss in 2016’s Suicide Squad and reprised her role in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, HBO Max’s Peacemaker, and recently in the post-credit scene of Black Adam.
Even though the Black Adam movie as a whole dud at the box office and both Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson are reportedly out from James Gunn’s new DCU. But it seems that James Gunn is setting up Viola Davis along with Jennifer Holland, who plays the role of Emilia Harcourt, as Nick Fury and Maria Hill of the DCU.
James Gunn reportedly developing a project involving Amanda Waller
It is reasonable to assume that James Gunn has a substantial role planned for the character of Amanda Waller in his newly crafted DCU, considering his new Instagram story that hints at a new project comprising the character. But this isn’t the first time the director has considered providing the character more limelight.
According to rumors the director was initially interested to craft a TV show focusing on Waller, even before he was appointed as the head of DC. Even though the director later debunked many rumors surrounding his projects, he didn’t completely rule out the possibility of a Waller-focused show, as he went on to state,
“We haven’t even announced any TV series yet. There’s a lot of stories out there about what’s happening, and some of them are accurate, some of them are not.”
With fans waiting for the announcement of the initial chapters of James Gunn’s 10-year plan for the DCU, some believe Amanda Waller will have a major role in the universe. And considering the director’s recent Instagram story, it’s reasonable to assume that Viola Davis has a promising future in the DCU.
