Before Sam Raimi took over the Spider-Man franchise to new heights, acclaimed director James Cameron wanted a go at the superhero genre. The script by Cameron was so wild that the film was never made partly due to legal reasons and partly for the R-rated script.
According to sources, James Cameron had put his mind to a Spider-Man movie back in the 1980s that featured severe profanities, and graphic sex scenes between the leads. And yes, a discussion of spider mating rituals.
When James Cameron Wanted To Make An R-rated Spider-Man
As intriguing as the plot sounds, the film had legal reasons for objection due to Sony owning Spider-Man even though he was Marvel’s property. The people are relieved that the film was never made due to the leaked script that now surfaces on the Internet.
Concept art was also released recently featured in the book Tech Noir: The Art of James Cameron. The infamous script in question was R-rated such that the film would feature frequent profanities, a graphic sex scene between Mary Jane and Peter Parker on top of the Brooklyn Bridge.
When the deed would be done, there was also a lengthy discussion of Peter and MJ discussion spider mating rituals! A paragraph from the script featured Spider-Man and Electro atop the World Trade Center.
“Spiders are predators. They kill to live. They are not hampered by humanitarian ideals or impeded in their lethal efficiency by delusions of morality.”
The gist of the movie was basically that Peter Parker did not only gain the spider’s power but also that he gained the spider’s predatory abilities.
James Cameron And His Brilliance At Box Office Collections
The director rose to fame when Titanic became a household name back in 1997. Earning a whopping $2 billion at the global box office, Cameron rerouted his profit into creating Avatar in 2009.
Now, with Avatar: The Way of Water reveling in the success, the franchise has been confirmed to expand further with allegedly 3 more projects. James Cameron will also be re-releasing Titanic on its 25th anniversary in theaters which will add even more to his collection. He will also be collaborating with National Geographic to prove that the end of Titanic was justified. The director aims to prove that there was no way that Jack and Rose could have survived together on the wooden log piece.
The Titanic: 25 Years Later With James Cameron will release on 10th February on the 25th anniversary of the original Titanic. As for the latest project of Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water is currently running in theaters worldwide.
