In 2021, James Bond aficionados witnessed Daniel Craig wrap up his fifth and final outing as 007, No Time to Die, bringing his portrayal of the character to a fierce end. Since then, the hunt for a successor to take up the iconic mantle has been underway.
While the formal declaration of the chosen actor may be months or even years away, fans have long been rooting in favor of Henry Cavill. Cavill’s most recognizable roles are his portrayal of Superman in the DC Studios’ cinematic universe, and his performance in the Netflix series, The Witcher. Nevertheless, his bid for the role appears to have hit a snag.
Will Henry Cavill Be The Next James Bond?
Back in 2005, Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond. However, he was informed that he was “too chubby” for the part. Eventually, Craig was chosen instead of him and went on to become one of the most loved actors in the role. Although Cavill has a complicated past with the Bond franchise, Ladbrokes has recently given him an impressive 5/2 probability of becoming the next 007.
However, the prospects of the iconic role have hit a roadblock, with the former DC actor and a former Marvel hero now holding the top spot on the contenders’ list. Cavill will be locking horns with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Taylor-Johnson’s character was killed off in the 2015 Avengers film. He then secured roles in films such as Tenet and Outlaw King. The actor was recently seen in Bullet Train, which starred Brad Pitt in the lead. He will also be seen in a leading role in the upcoming Marvel film Kraven the Hunter — one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies.
Can Aaron Taylor-Johnson Beat Henry Cavill For The Iconic Role
Rumors were circulating last month that Taylor-Johnson auditioned for the coveted Bond role. But whether he has snatched the role from Cavill remains to be seen. As it stands, Taylor-Johnson currently has the same 5/2 odds as Cavill, placing them both at an equal chance of landing the role.
Previously, franchise producer Michael G. Wilson confirmed to the fans that the new James Bond would be played by an actor in their 30s, aligning with Craig’s age bracket during his introduction as 007 in 2006’s Casino Royale. However, back then, the fans and press didn’t receive Craig’s casting as the iconic spy very well. Producers Wilson and Barbara Broccoli also confirmed that the process of finalizing the next Bond would kick off sometime this year.
The last installment in the franchise, No Time to Die, is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. It can also be rented or purchased on Google Play.
