Tom Hiddleston, who is best known for playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was one of the actors who were often presented as a possible successor for the enduring character of James Bond. However, his desire to be James Bond was snubbed by the film franchise bosses.
Tom Hiddleston has made no secret of his desire to play Bond, and his celebrated performance in The Night Manager was viewed as a sort of audition for the role.
Barbara Broccoli Believed Tom Hiddleston is “too smug” to Play James Bond
According to the New York Post, James Bond franchise boss Barbara Broccoli wasn’t too taken with the idea of Tom Hiddleston playing the iconic superspy.
A source said:
“Barbara Broccoli doesn’t like Tom Hiddleston, he’s a bit too smug and not tough enough to play James Bond.”
“Tom’s cool performance in ‘The Night Manager’ saw him as a late contender for 007, but initial talks have come to an end,” a Bond film source told The Sun.
“Bond needs an air of mystery — (Hiddleston’s) public romance with Taylor has made him totally uncastable,” the source said.
In spite of earlier jokes that he would rather “slash his wrists” than play the secret service spy once more, Daniel Craig later rejoined the franchise.
Tom Hiddleston was no stranger to a movie franchise, having watched his career soar ever since he was cast as Thor’s estranged brother in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011.
Tom Hiddleston Addressed Those James Bond Rumors
Tom Hiddleston opened up to rumors that he would be aiming to take Daniel Craig’s place as the next James Bond.
Loki star Tom Hiddleston addressed the speculations and said,
“What can I say that you don’t already know? It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not? Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions.”
Daniel Craig made his debut as Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale. In 2021’s No Time To Die, Bond was killed off in order to save his daughter and love interest, who was portrayed by Léa Seydoux.
