Chris Rock and Will Smith’s history has been a troubling one ever since the 2022’s Oscars took a jab at their reputations, specifically Smtih’s. The infamous slap became iconic for the audience but the actor had to pay heavily for it in terms of his reputation, his career, and the respect he had gained throughout the years. Making amends became a controversy of its own.
It was Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s brother who provided even more insight into the situation. A lot was going on between Rock and Smith after the slap but, it was the lies that disappointed and angered Tony Rock. He has finally stepped forward to expose what really went down between all of them, seeing that he and Smith were close friends.
Tony Rock Thinks Will Smith Was Tired Of The Soft Persona
Tony Rock recently talked about Will Smith slapping his brother Chris Rock on the stage of the Oscars in 2022. Even after over two years, there seems to be more left to say that adds to the various hidden details of the incident that took place.
“My phone number has never changed. So, I just thought I’d get a phone call one day like, ‘Ay, let’s just you and I just talk.’ It hasn’t happened, so I guess it’s not going to happen. I think that [OscarSlap] was the accumulation of him being slapped on other levels. He said it himself, he always hated the ‘soft moniker.’ He’s soft, Jada won’t let Tupac die, it’s always something about Tupac and his daughter [Willow Smith] brought up Tupac. And I’m not bringing up family stuff that people don’t know… this is stuff that everybody knows.”
According to Rock, there was always a way to reach him or his brother if Smith had actually tried instead of telling everyone that he did so. He believes that the slap was essential to him because Will Smith was growing tired of the soft persona that was only building more and more. His attempt to step out of that image added to him going on stage and taking as harsh a step as slapping Chris Rock.

Tony Rock talked a lot about the friendship between him and Will Smith. According to him Smith reached out to both him and Chris Rock a couple of days after the slap and stated that he had been trying to contact both of them but failed.
This came as a shock to the comedian as his number had not changed in years and he had been expecting Smith to make contact sometime soon but he hadn’t. It was what made Tony Rock realize that Will Smith had been lying about the aftermath.
