Jada Pinkett Smith opened up on her disagreement with Tupac Shakur
Pinkett Smith and Tupac Shakur formed a good friendship at Baltimore High School for the Arts. She shared that he introduced himself on the first day of school. She also added that Tupac Shakur was a bit funny looking in high school. She said,
“Definitely from looking at him, wasn’t necessarily the type of cat that I would even, like, deal with.”
However, after they were introduced he was like a magnet. She recalled,
“Once you paid attention to him he kind of sucked you in. And we hit it off from that moment on … I don’t think either one of us thought we would have made it in the way that we did, but we knew we were gonna do something.”
The two were close after that, but Pinkett Smith shared they also often had huge disagreements. She said during an interview with Howard Stern that she and Tupac once had a massive fight due to which they were not on talking terms when he was murdered in 1996.
Talking about the disagreement, she said,
“We had a very hardcore disagreement … I just wasn’t in agreement with the direction that he was taking. He felt as though I had changed. Looking back now, I totally understand where Pac was, because, at that particular point in time, that mentality was part of his survival … [but] it was a mentality that he started to come out of before he was murdered.”
The two fell out after their careers started taking shape in Hollywood. It was mainly because Pinkett Smith did not approve of the path Tupac had taken at that time.

Will Smith’s wife was heartbroken after losing her friend Tupac Shakur in 1996. She felt she never got the opportunity to show her immense love for him. She shared in the interview,
“I felt sadness for not having the opportunity to tell him I love him, I know he knew that. It wasn’t the first time that we had had a bad argument and had stopped speaking. That was kind of a constant in our relationship.”
Jada Pinkett Smith also shared that she learned a huge lesson from her personal tragedy, that life is too short. She explained,
“Do not let disagreements stand in between you and people that you love and care about.”
Talking about Tupac, Pinkett Smith added,
“You know, I love him. He left a very strong and powerful mark. People are still inspired by him. So he did his work.”
Tupac Shakur was fatally shot in 1996 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas Valley. He was only 25 years old when he passed away.
