Will Smith released his autobiography Will on November 9, 2021, in which he discussed his wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s first meeting with his grandma. When Pinkett Smith and Smith began dating, the Men In Black actor’s grandma was overjoyed to meet Pinkett Smith. The 54-year-old writes about Pinkett Smitha and his grandmother’s first meeting in his book and explains why it was a disaster for the 51-year-old actress.
The Girls Trip actress specially traveled to California to meet her husband’s grandmother. The I Am Legend actor explained that he decided to play Pinkett Smith’s music video Jason’s Lyric to introduce his wife to his grandma. In the video there is a love scene between Pinkett Smith and singer Allen Payne, Smith wrote in his book,
“The film is a beautiful love story between Lyric, played by Jada, and Jason, played by Allen Payne. At sixty-three minutes into Jason’s Lyric, Jada has a graphic love scene that has become one of the most iconic love scenes in African American cinema.”
He further added,
“So when Jada said she was leaving her house in fifteen minutes, to take the forty-four-minute drive to my place, I pushed play on Jason’s Lyric, and Gigi started watching.”
Smith explained Pinkett Smith wasn’t happy with how her husband had planned her introduction. Reportedly the King Richard actor thought it wasn’t a big disaster but his wife’s expression explained a different story.

The Scream 2 actress was horrified when she saw the steamy scene being played in front of Smith’s grandmother. In his book Will, the 54-year-old actor described Pinkett Smith’s reaction, he wrote in his book,
“Jada freezes. She looks at Gigi, then to the screen. Back to Gigi. Horrified. Then to me. Back to the screen. To Gigi. To me.”
Smith also explained how her grandmother Gigi reacted to Pinkett Smith’s bold video. Smith wrote in his book,
“Gigi sits back on the couch, folds her arms, and says, ‘When I was young, people didn’t have to take their clothes off to make movies.”
Smith expressed in his book that he was overjoyed when he first introduced Pinkett Smith to his grandmother. He said he was very excited when they both met.
