Think about Martial Arts in the film industry and your thoughts would probably land on to Jackie Chan. One of the most famous actors in the world, he is best known for doing his own stunts. And hence over his long career, the star has sustained countless serious injuries.
The star has broken many bones while shooting and even has a permanent hole in his head. But when talking about his most painful injury ever, he lists the one he got from the legendary Bruce Lee during their $400 Million movie.
Jackie Chan’s Most Painful Injury
While many look up to Jackie Chan for being a master stuntman, Chan himself is a big fan of the martial arts champion Bruce Lee. Both worked together in the $400 Million movie Enter The Dragon, which was Chan’s first ever movie as a stuntman.
In an interview, the Spy Next Door actor revealed how he pretended to be hurt and in pain, the whole day after Bruce Lee accidentally hit him during a fight.
“I was behind the camera and I would just see Bruce Lee. Then I ran and suddenly it was all black in front of my eyes. He had hit just one stick right on my head. I felt dizzy and I looked at Bruce Lee — he kept acting until the director said cut.”
As soon as the Director said cut, Lee at once ran over to the injured Chan to apologize,
“He then threw his stick, turned around and said, ‘Oh my God’ and ran to me and lifted me up and said sorry. I was not in pain anymore. I was a young guy and very tough. But I pretended to be in pain so that Bruce Lee holds me for as long as he can. I kept pretending the whole day.”
Even in his autobiography, Never Grow Up, Jackie Chan revealed how he was actually too ‘honored to have been hit by Bruce Lee’ and that was a moment he could never forget.
Jackie Chan Has A Permanent Hole In His Head
Jackie Chan is not afraid of injuries and hence does the majority of his stunts on his own. While he has mostly escaped unscathed most of the time, there have been a few where he seriously got himself injured. During the shoot of The Armour Of God, the Shanghai Knights star was left with a serious injury that resulted in a permanent hole in his head and hearing loss.
It was one of those scenes where he had to drink a cup of beer and make a leap at a tree that would bend down and he could escape unhinged. But being the perfectionist he is, Chan wasn’t satisfied with just a single take. Since he was drinking real beer, after a couple of takes the actor fell down hitting his head against a rock.
The injury resulted in a long surgery with a plastic plug inserted into the hole to keep everything where it should be and a slight hearing loss in the right ear. Despite it, the star continues to perform his own stunts, even now.
