"I’ve never felt like this before, I’m engaged to a magnificent woman": Tom Cruise Proposed to Katie Holmes at the Most Romantic Place in the World

Tom Cruise has had several courtships over the course of his Hollywood career. But out of all his romances, his wedding to Katie Holmes was perhaps the most lavish of all, or at least his proposal to her was. Cruise really set the bar beyond the sky after he went all out with his romantic proposal in the city of love itself.

Sadly enough, after six years of marriage though, the pair split apart when Holmes filed for divorce in June 2012. Well, at least they have some beautiful memories to cherish. After all, being proposed at the Eiffel Tower isn’t something that can be forgotten so easily.

Tom Cruise’s Mesmerizing Proposal in the City of Love

The spring of 2005 was a beautiful time for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Both of them were head over heels in love with each other, so much so that they ended up getting engaged just a couple of months after they first met in April.

In what transpired to be a highly publicized relationship, the Top Gun star only ended up grabbing more of the media’s attention with his ecstatically romantic proposal to Holmes. Not to mention, Cruise announced their engagement just as publicly during a press conference in Paris.

“Yes, I proposed to her. … It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven’t slept at all.”

“Today is a magnificent day for me, I’m engaged to a magnificent woman.”

Upon being asked why he picked Paris as the location for the proposal, the 60-year-old actor said it was because Paris was a “beautiful” and “romantic” city. He also added that he’d never visited the Eiffel Tower before that which was all the more reason for him to carry out the celebration there.

And a year later, the two lovebirds tied the knot in Italy. Their wedding was a grand affair held in the stunning 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano. After such gestures of love, who would’ve thought that their relationship was going to come apart at the seams in no time?

The Chaos Following Tom Cruise And Katie Holmes’ Divorce

Back in 2012, when the Alone Together actress filed for a divorce, Cruise admitted that he hadn’t been expecting that at all. However, the legal proceedings all got sorted out relatively easily and the two ended up going their separate ways in just over a week.

More than a decade later, the ex-couple’s split continues to remain a mystery as neither of them ever addressed their divorce in public. But rumors and speculation claim that Holmes was adamant about breaking up because she was trying to keep their daughter, Shuri, away from the Church of Scientology, the religion that Cruise followed. However, neither of the stars ever corroborated said claims.
