Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly sure knows how to get the best of fans’ curiosity. Since the release of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer, fans have been discussing whether the threequel will be Paul Rudd’s last run as Ant-Man. And all the fans’ questions will be answered soon as the film is just weeks away from its release. However, the Real Steel star has once again left fans guessing as she hinted that Ant-Man’s MCU journey could end in the upcoming threequel.
Lilly has been a part of the MCU since starring in the 2014 film Ant-Man. While the film focused on Scott Lang’s journey from a con artist to a superhero, it only offered a modest look at Hope’s story. And the actress portraying the character has said that The Wasp deserves her solo film too.
Evangeline Lilly Wants to Star in a Hope van Dyne Spin-Off
Evangeline Lilly shared what she thinks of her MCU journey with Variety at the premiere of her latest film, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. She shared that the whole cast of Ant-Man has come a long way from where they started. Sharing her experience from the Brazil Comic-Con, the Lost star shared that she feels like she has “become an Avengers senior.”
“I had this moment when we’re at CCXP, the Brazil Comic-Con, where we came out on stage, and something just clicked where I realized ‘I’ve become an Avengers senior.”
Lilly shared that she finally feels like she is also a prominent part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And considering that she is willing to star in a Hope van Dyne spin-off as well, she could appear in the upcoming films in the MCU as well. She made the pitch for a solo movie when she was asked how long she would be portraying the Marvel character.
She said, “I’m gonna make a pitch that I think it might be time for a Hope spin-off.” But why would Hope van Dyne need a solo movie after Ant-Man 3? Evangeline Lilly’s statement seems to hint at one of the most popular theories about the threequel.
Why Does Evangeline Lilly Want a Solo Film Now?
One of the popular theories about Ant-Man 3 is that it would not have a pleasant ending for Paul Rudd’s character. And it could be the reason behind Lilly pitching a solo movie for her Marvel character.
During the promotion of the Ant-Man sequel, Lilly said that Ant-Man and The Wasp have always been a team while giving it as the reason why she did not want a standalone film for her character. And now that Lilly has said she wants a solo film for Hope, it could be considered that the “team” could be coming to an end in Ant-Man 3.
That could be the reason the Little Evil star wants to star in her solo film. Earlier, she said that she would love to star in an all-female Avengers film. However, this time she has pitched the idea for a solo film for her character, hinting that Quantumania could be the last film Ant-Man and the Wasp would be seen together. The solo film could follow her and Cassie Lang’s journey in the MCU.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to release on 17 February 2023.
