Henry Cavill has moved on from Netflix’s The Witcher but the series seems to find new ways to hurt the actor more and more every day. Citing creative differences to be the reason for Cavill’s exit, the Man of Steel actor claimed that the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich deviated significantly from the books.
In an epic case of irony, the executive producer of the show recently stated that the upcoming season will be “very lore accurate”. Talking about the transition of Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia to Liam Hemsworth’s, the executive producer stated that the transition was based on one of the core ideas of The Witcher books!
The Witcher Seems To Mock Henry Cavill For Leaving!
Back in 2021 when the second season of The Witcher dropped, fans were quite excited for the next time they meet Geralt of Rivia. The fans were quite heartbroken to hear when it was announced that Henry Cavill will not be returning for the fourth season.
Citing the reason as creative differences between the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and Henry Cavill, the actor stated that Hissrich deviated quite significantly from the source material and did not respect the lore of the books. In a twist of ironic fate, it seems that the transition between Cavill’s Geralt and Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt will be so smooth that the executive producers let it slip that it will be “lore accurate”.
In an interview, the executive producers of the show, Tomek Baginski and Steve Gaub talked about the upcoming season and how the transition between Cavill and Hemsworth will take place. Contrary to what the showrunner is allegedly doing, the executive producers revealed that the season will be very accurate to the books!
“We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam. Not going deeply into those ideas because this will be a huge spoiler, [but] it’s also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.”
Tomek Baginski continued,
“It’s very lore accurate. It’s very close to what was set out in the books and I think this change will be quite flawless. But at the same time, it will be a new Geralt, it will be a new face for this character and I think it will also be very, very exciting to see.”
While talking about the transition, Baginski and Gaub also stated that after Henry Cavill’s exit from the franchise, the character of Cirilla (Ciri) will take center stage and will be the main character of the saga from now on.
Ciri Will Take Center Stage In The Witcher
With Henry Cavill out of the equation (sadly), it seems that the fate of the continent will rest in the hands of Ciri. The child of Destiny, portrayed by Freya Allan, will take center stage in the saga moving forward. This essentially means that the story will focus more on Cirilla rather than Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg.
“[Time of Contempt] is also the book where Ciri –let’s be blunt about this– becomes the main character of the saga, because this is how it was done in the books, and watching Ciri evolve, and watching Freya evolve as an actress in this season, was incredible, just incredible.”
The Witcher Season 3 Volume 1 is slated to release on 29th June and Volume 2 will be released on 27th July 2023 on Netflix. The third season will mark Henry Cavill’s last appearance as Geralt of Rivia, and fans will quite dearly miss him.
