After a long and uncertain wait, fans were finally thrilled to hear that their favorite lawyer/superhero will be returning to the screens once again. Charlie Cox’s fans were heartbroken to see Netflix’s Daredevil canceled after a mere three seasons and are now waiting to see what Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s MCU journey will look like.
Charlie Cox himself has teased what the audience should expect from the Disney+ show. However, jumping from Netflix to MCU, the question arises whether the Daredevil that we’re all going to see very soon is the same as Netflix or is he a completely new version. Well, while Charlie Cox did have the answer to this question, fans are calling him out for giving contradictory answers.
Daredevil Fans Call Out Charlie Cox’s Confusion
Our favorite lawyer is back and with him, he has brought quite the confusion about what Daredevil: Born Again is going to be like. Previously, Charlie Cox stated that while the upcoming series will have similar darkness to it like the Netflix original, the level of gore in the Disney+ version will be toned down by a bit. He also stated that he believes the character “works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience,” and then later contradicted his statement by saying that it was time to broaden the horizon.
“Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”
Adding to the confusion, Cox appeared in an interview with iNews UK where the interviewer asked him if Matt Murdock in the Disney+ show will be the same as the Netflix original, or if he was a different character, altogether. Cox’s answer seemed as if the actor himself is in the dark about his own character, adding that he hasn’t read the scripts.
“I don’t think it’s a different character. I just think it’s maybe a different period of his life. I don’t think my interpretation will change – they hired the same actor. We’re saying this is a whole new… era, or variant? I haven’t read the scripts, so I don’t know. But like, it’s part of the multiverse?”
Fans weren’t too satisfied with the answer stating that they believe Cox doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Does Cox really not know what the show is going to be all about or is this one of his courtroom bluffs to try and keep the audience engaged? Fans are just going to have to wait to figure this one out!
Is Daredevil: Born Again Like the Namesake Comic?
In the same interview, Cox talked about the Daredevil: Born Again comic which shares the name with the upcoming series. Cox stated that the only reason the name was chosen is that it was familiar to the fans. As far as following the comic goes, Born Again is extremely unlikely to tread the same path as the comic.
“The only way I’ll change is if, tonally, the show is very different. I don’t think anyone should read into the name as to the kind of stories that we’re going to tell.”
It looks like fans are in for more fresh Daredevil content; however, a tease about the plot seems out of reach for now. Since Cox himself doesn’t know much it’s hard to place bets about the show at the moment. Well, except for the fact that it’s not going to be Daredevil season four.
Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ in the Spring of 2024.
