Counted among the most prestigious film festivals in the world, the Taormina Film Festival is regarded as the Italian version of the Academy Awards. Having an illustrious history of over 69 years, the film fest’s 69th edition would soon be held in Sicily, Italy.

Amber Heard‘s In The Fire, directed by Conor Allyn, will mark her comeback to the big screen after a long while. Set in the year 1899, the film would be having its world premiere at the Taormina Film Festival. This will mark Amber Heard’s first public appearance on the red carpet after the lengthy public battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

With Johnny Depp’s recent Jeanne du Barry also among the premieres at the festival, fans have been pointing out that the festival seems to be dissing Johnny Depp by including both the stars’ movies in their lineup. Some even went ahead to claim that Heard’s movie being included in such an important film festival would be like a stain on its glorious history.

Amber Heard is many things, but a liar is how the plethora of Johnny Depp fans would label her. With her latest to be premiered at Italy’s most acclaimed film fest, social media is divided over the festival’s decision to showcase her comeback film in a long while. With many calling the organizers ‘pathetic’ for standing with an abuser rather than a survivor, here is how fans of both Depp and Heard have been reacting on social media.

While Johnny Depp received much praise for his ‘comeback’ film Jeanne du Barry, it would be interesting to see how things go on for his ex-wife Amber Heard.
