After the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the office, Dwayne Johnson’s dream to craft his universe revolving around Teth-Adam seems to be over. The actor, who had planned the ultimate showdown of his character with Superman has vanished after the removal of Henry Cavill.
Even though Dwayne Johnson’s had to put a lot of effort to make the Black Adam movie a reality, James Gunn’s vision for the DCU seems to have sidelined the character’s future in the new universe. But it appears that Dwayne Johnson is still open to returning as the anti-hero if asked.
Dwayne Johnson is open to returning to DCU
Even though Dwayne Johnson’s vision for the character isn’t moving forward, the actor is still open to returning to the DCU under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The Rock doesn’t seem to mind the change in the regime, as he previously shared that he wasn’t interested in becoming the Kevin Feige for DC but only wanted to stick with the studio for his love of Teth-Adam.
The Rock shared that he has a deep respect for James Gunn and his vision for DC and is exploring the possible ways to take his character’s story forward. While Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has been sidelined for the initial chapters of James Gunn’s new DCU, the WWE champion hinted that he might return as Teth-Adam in the future of DCU.
Dwayne Johnson had to struggle to make the Black Adam movie a reality
Dwayne Johnson shared his love for the DC comics and had to spend 15 years developing his passion project Black Adam, which marked the first appearance of the actor as a DC hero. The actor explained that it took a lot of effort to convince the Warner Bros executives to allow him to play the character, as the studio wasn’t ready to look past the Justice League characters. The Rock stated,
“But it took convincing to get the studio to look past the Justice League into the DC universe, and there are some cool characters there. You’ve just got to give it a shot and trust the investment. Black Adam has been sitting around for almost 80 years.”
Eventually, the biggest star of Hollywood got to make his passion project and bring the anti-hero to the big screen. But the movie didn’t go off to success, as it bombed critically and commercially, with a total box office collection of $393 million from a colossal budget of $235 million excluding the marketing. But it seems that Johnson is still open to continuing playing Black Adam in the new DCU.
Although it’s still under wraps whether James Gunn has some Plans for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam in the next chapters of his DCU. But it appears that The Rock has no problem with the new leadership and is open to reprising the role of Black Adam whenever he is asked to.
