Jason Momoa’s recent outburst on social media was a happy dance if there ever was any. While fans still mourned the recent losses at DC, one of the elemental actors constituting the previous regime has moved ahead with the new plans and the new management. As such, Momoa has risen from the drama unscathed and upright, with a bright new future ahead of him, and that too, not just as the Prince of Atlantis.
With James Gunn and Peter Safran about to unravel their multi-year DC plan, the fans get a little preview of what’s to come straight from the Aquaman actor himself.
Jason Momoa Talks About His Multi-Character Role at DCU
At the recent Sundance Film Festival, Jason Momoa made a few declarations (via Variety) that have been both well-received and critically mocked. For weeks, rumors of the actor playing Lobo has surfaced out of the desperation from witnessing Warner Bros. Discovery’s slashing of SnyderVerse actors and characters. As such, a recasting such as this would be most preferable given how Momoa is not only a crowd favorite but also the best candidate – physically and temperamentally – suited to portray the Czarnian antihero.
But, without naming any names or establishing any of the rumors as facts, Jason Momoa has instead given the DC fans something equally anticipatory to be excited about.
“I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking sh*t. There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming.”
Now equipped with this new piece of information, months of optimistic hoping on the fans’ part have finally peaked but for some of the industry insiders and critics, the same may not be the case.
Jason Momoa’s Fan Casting as Lobo Makes Critics Angry
While a majority of the fandom rejoices in the Justice League actor’s new announcement and upon seeing their own wishes about Momoa portraying Lobo being manifested in real-time, some industry experts have found the flaw in this otherwise picture-perfect plan. The coming of Lobo in itself is not a singularly horrible thing for DC, and neither is Jason Momoa playing the character. The problem lies in the fact that the actor claims he might be playing both Aquaman as well as the undisclosed “other characters” in the coming years of the franchise.
With the foundational basis of Jason Momoa’s arc in DC confirmed, it is now a matter of patience and timing on the franchise’s part to make his involvement in this new universe public. The current state of the formative DC is in no condition to play into the fan frenzy and deliver a fan-cast storyline to achieve short-term profitability (re: rumors of introducing Lobo as the villain in James Gunn’s new Superman story).
Instead, accounting for the bigger picture – no matter how selfish the plans may seem in its initial stages – will recreate the DC Cinematic Universe better and stronger in the long run with more stability and focus, which is inherently what the fandom needs right now rather than a short fix and a temporary high.
