The world came to know him as Iron Man, some, however, also remembered him for his dark past as well. Robert Downey Jr., the go-to man for problems, was once a drug abuser trapped in the vicious cycle of self-harm and getting high.

When Robert Downey Jr. Had His Hand on the Trigger

The story of Robert Downey Jr.’s drug addiction is almost as famous as the story of Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor used to be addicted to drugs back in the 1980s and 90s and had been arrested for possession and consumption of drugs for which he also served jail time.

During one of the trials, the Sherlock Holmes actor recalled the experience of being a drug abuser but getting caught in the dangerous loop of consuming and buying. The actor gave the perfect metaphor for drug usage and compared it to a shotgun with his hand on the trigger. He shared it with the judge, while testifying:

“It’s like I’ve got a shotgun in my mouth, with my finger on the trigger, and I like the taste of the gun metal,”

The actor explained that he could pull the trigger anytime he wanted (by overdosing himself) but he just liked the taste of the gunmetal (getting high). Robert Downey Jr. started taking drugs at a very early age due to his father Robert Downey Sr. consuming drugs.

Following some jail time and some introspection, Downey Jr. made a comeback into the Hollywood film industry and is currently one of the most popular and iconic actors to ever exist to date. The Iron Man actor is currently slated to appear in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming magnum opus which has the people excited.
