Discussing her upcoming movie with USA Today, Reese Witherspoon explained how the sequel took inspiration from the success that is Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick.
Addressing the huge critical and box office success of Tom Cruise’s movie, Witherspoon admitted Top Gun: Maverick inspired the direction implemented by Legally Blonde 3. Breathing life into the comical adventures of Elle Woods, the 47-year-old further mentioned being highly protective of her third installment.

Reflecting upon her 2023 upcoming Legally Blonde 3, Reese Witherspoon discussed how she had to enter into negotiation for her third installment. Willing to deliver a cinematic spectacle, and keep up with fans’ expectations over the franchise, the actress discussed her upcoming sequel in detail.
“I’m still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way.” Witherspoon shared.
Getting into further detail the Oscar-winning actress mentioned, “It’s just like Top Gun. They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it.” Admitting how Legally Blonde 3 took inspiration from the nostalgic element, Reese Witherspoon also mentioned the mistake she won’t be making.
“So, definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had all those same touchstones that mattered to people (back) then.” Witherspoon shared. She further added, “I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them. I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story”.
Thus, keeping away the subpar, mediocre version, the actress articulated her dedication to offering a phenomenal addition to the $267M Legally Blonde franchise.
