Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became perhaps the most controversial and talked about couple in Hollywood ever since they started dating back in 2005. Having a great relationship but a not-so-good marriage, the couple has been very open to the public regarding their personal life.
After dating for many years, the duo married but quickly filed for divorce two years later and it took a heavy toll on both the actors. Following their divorce, Brad Pitt went down a dark trail of overthinking and anxiety when he realized that he was never a good father and that he had to do better for himself and for the other people in his life.
Brad Pitt Felt He Was Never A Good Father After His Divorce
The duo of Pitt and Jolie started dating in 2005. After dating for several years and sharing six children, the two finally decided to marry each other on the 14th of April 2014, followed by a wedding ceremony at the now infamous Château Miraval. But two years into their marriage, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
In 2019, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were declared legally single again. The divorce was more than what Pitt could handle and the actor went down a dark path of self-doubt and anxiety. Talking about it with an outlet, the Fight Club actor stated that he hadn’t been a great father and that he had to do more for himself as well as his family.
“I’m much better at covering up. I grew up with a Father-knows-best/war mentality—the father is all-powerful, super strong—instead of really knowing the man and his own self-doubt and struggles. And it’s hit me smack in the face with our divorce: I gotta be more. I gotta be more for them. I have to show them. And I haven’t been great at it,”
It seems that the actor was faced with a not-so-good childhood since as per his talks, Pitt seems to have been raised in a conservative family. Alongside the divorce, the actor also discussed his court case with Angelina Jolie and it seems to resonate very deeply with the actor.
Brad Pitt Talks About His Family Getting Ripped Apart
As stated earlier, it was really tough for the actor when the divorce was finalized and officially declared in 2019. In the interview with GQ, the actor talked about his court case and how he had heard a lawyer say that “No one wins in court—it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse.”
“It was all that for a while. I was really on my back and chained to a system when Child Services was called. And you know, after that, we’ve been able to work together to sort this out. We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, “No one wins in court—it’s just a matter of who gets hurt worse.”
The Bullet Train actor further continued,
“And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you’re right and why they’re wrong, and it’s just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It’s just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart.”
Although the divorce case ended in 2019, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are currently engaged in a court battle for the ownership of Château Miraval. The case is currently under trial and has gained quite a lot of attention over the years.
