It can’t be denied that the defamation trial cost Johnny Depp a lot even after the verdict went in his favor. He lost several iconic franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts. But after he won the trial in Virginia, it was expected that the Jack Sparrow fame would come back stronger. While everyone was expecting a grand comeback, some news suggests that his behavior still stands as a huge problem to work with for several directors.
Johnny Depp was accused of domestic abuse and violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard which led to a series of legal dramas between the two. Depp finally closed the chapter by winning the defamation trial in Virginia and was awarded more than $10 million. But a series of appeals continued the tussle before the whole scenario got its closure a few days ago. Amber Heard announced her suspension of the appeal to the verdict and settled the case by agreeing to pay $1 million to her ex-husband.
Johnny Depp’s behavior might cost him his comeback
Besides some guest appearances in shows like MTV’s Video Music Awards and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show, the Edward Scissorhands actor was also slated to make his return on the screens with La Favorite. In the French period drama, Johnny Depp is roped in to play the role of King Louis XV. But according to the latest reports, his behavior on the set during the filming of this movie had set a very bad impression.
The news came from French actor Bernard Montiel in the French show Touche pas à mon poste! (Don’t Touch My TV Set!). According to him, there were numerous heated arguments between Depp and the director of the movie Maïwenn. He added that even though the filming has wrapped, the movie faced many hurdles due to the Dark Shadows actor’s issues with timing.
“Johnny Depp is an excellent actor when he comes on the set. Except that sometimes the team is ready at 6 a.m. and no one comes. So, afterward, Maïwenn gets angry and the next day, it is she who does not come and there is Johnny Depp. It’s madness. They’re (expletive) off. It’s going very, very badly. They argue constantly.”
It cannot be forgotten that Johnny Depp has faced blames for being late or intoxicated on the set before also. Retaining these habits even after such a drastic impact on his career questions whether he can make a huge comeback in the industry and can regain some popularity that is affected in the recent few years.
Is Johnny Depp’s future in jeopardy?
Even after winning the defamation trial against Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is yet to make any big announcements. As some new stories emerge regarding his behavior on set and arguments with the director, the 59-year-old actor’s future looks somewhat debatable.
Despite the Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s interest in bringing back the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow on the big screens, some insider reports claim his future to be questionable. These reports state that big names will tend to steer clear of him.
Following the release of La Favorite in 2023, Johnny Depp is also set to co-produce Modigliani with Godfather fame Al Pacino. More updates about his future projects will be eagerly awaited.
