What did the developer reveal about the upcoming James Bond game?

During a recent interview with GameReactor, two members of IO Interactive spoke to them about the upcoming James Bond Game, Project 007, which is currently in development. Speaking to Álvaro Fernández and Cris Vega, who are the core engine programmer and senior technical executive producer respectively. Vega said of the game:

“007 is under development, it’s looking very cool. It’s going to tell the story of the first Bond and how it becomes the secret agent that he is, but that’s what we can comment on.”

As for what platforms the game will be available on when it eventually launches, both Fernandez and Vega were unsure as that just isn’t their department when it comes to the company. Because of the same reasoning, they were unable to provide a release window or release date as well. Fernandez said:

“Not much, actually, because this is not our domain. This is also [something where] there’s nothing clear for us, so I don’t think any word came out about any specifics about this, so we cannot comment on it”.

Vega then added:

“Yeah, [it’s an] online multiplayer RPG and likely will be like any other IOI game, probably will be on console and PC, but nothing is confirmed, it’s still some years until it will release, so yeah”.

Elsewhere in the interview, the two also spoke on the game engine that they use, the Glacier engine, and how it is special, as well as conversations on artificial intelligence (AI) that has dominated much of the popular discourse across the world over the past year or so.

What else is in the future for James Bond?

The last James Bond movie to be released was No Time to Die in 2021, which also happened to be Daniel Craig’s final time as the super spy. Currently, there is no official word on who the next actor to play Bond will be, though many names have been thrown around in speculation, such as Idris Elba and Henry Cavil, amongst others.

As for directors interested in helming the next movie, Oppenheimer and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan threw his hat in the ring, saying that:

“The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent,” Nolan said. “It would be an amazing privilege to do one. At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints.”

Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond, said that they are yet to start looking for a new actor to play the character of James Bond. Seeing as how popular the franchise is, though, it is a question of when, not if, the next actor is announced.
