It’s hard to believe that any celebrity would be intimidated by the charming Hollywood star Christian Bale, however, actress Natalie Portman once revealed that she was intimidated by Bale when the two filmed their first movie together, Knight of Cups.
Portman explained that she was scared of Bale’s boldness. Since Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups was an experimental film, Portman was constantly worried about Bale’s unexpected moves. In the end, the experience was quite fun. They once again worked together in Thor: Love and Thunder and Portman was once again intimidated by him, however, this time even Bale was scared.
Natalie Portman was intimidated by Christian Bale while working in Knight of Cups
2015’s Knight of Cups was the first time Natalie Portman worked with Christian Bale. While the experience was fun, she noted that she was scared of Bale. In a 2016 interview, Portman recalled (via People),
“Christian would do surprising things all the time. It’s fun to watch – and sometimes scary, like when he’s like diving off a dock into the ocean when you don’t expect it in the middle of a scene. He also keeps everything feeling very alive and spontaneous. It was really a fun, unusual experience.”
Written and directed by Terrence Malick, Knight of Cups was an experimental drama film. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its unique idea.
Christian Bale was also intimidated by Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman and Christian Bale once again reunited while working on Taika Waititi’s 2022 movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. This time, things were different as Bale revealed that he was also intimidated by Portman on the sets because of her physique (via Hollywood Access),
“She was buff and every time I had any scene with her, she was angry, and she was focused, and she had a hell of a presence, and I was bloody intimidated by her.”
Bale’s appearance as Gorr the God Butcher in the movie marked his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the casting was perfect, fans have complained that Waititi doesn’t know how to bring out the true potential of important characters. The MCU was something that Bale was not aware of, so when he was approached for the role, he researched about it.
