Known for its rich and complex story, Star Wars is a franchise that was way ahead of its time as it followed a futuristic theme, with detailed world-building. The franchise also had iconic music and sound effects such as the vociferation of Tie Fighters, the blaster sounds, the hum of the lightsabers, the beeps of R2-D2, and the breathing sound of Darth Vader.
The franchise had a major cultural impact, but the series faced a lot of bumps and obstacles when they tried to expand their universe, eventually destroying the popular franchise with too many bad TV shows, and movies. Recently, Liam Neeson has commented on the franchise’s popularity and the condition for reprising his legendary role.
What did Liam Neeson Say about his Potential Return to the Star Wars Franchise?
Liam Neeson who played the role of Qui-Gon Jinn, the legendary Jedi master in Star Wars nailed his role, as a result, he is often asked if we would ever see the actor reprising the role of the Jedi Master, and the answer is always no.
In an episode of Paul Rudd’s Watch What Happens Live! aired on 16th February 2023,, Neeson was again asked if he would reprise his role and he answered “No, I’m not.” The actor went on to explain, that Star Wars is destroying itself with too many spin-offs and poorly written shows, which is affecting the popularity and nostalgia felt in the movies of the franchise.
“There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”
However, Liam Neeson talked about a potential return to the franchise, as he explained that he would return if he will be in a movie premiering on the big screens, and he doesn’t prefer working in TV series.
“Oh, I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so…if it was a film. Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I must admit. I just like the big screen, you know? Qui-Gon, I can’t believe it’s 24 years since we made ‘The Phantom Menace,’ I just cannot believe where the time has gone. It was a terrific experience, shooting that film in London.”
Even though Star Wars have a few good series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, most of the films released in recent times have performed poorly at the Box Office, as they were full of plot holes, poorly written characters, bad cinematography, and lack of direction and creativity compared to the first six films of the franchise.
Liam Neeson’s Role in Star Wars
Liam Neeson played the role of Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace. The actor played the role of the legendary Jedi Master serving the Galactic Empire.
