Starfield has been 25 years in the making and Game Director Todd Howard assured fans that initial vision for the game has been retained, even after all these years. Todd took the stage and kicked off Gamescom’s Opening Night Live and spoke at large about Starfield and how the game still holds plenty of surprises. Todd mentioned how Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchise’s success forced them to think about something new to offer fans, based out in the interstellar universe. He went on to mention that gamers will have a lot of freedom to explore the vast galaxy, making Starfield the ultimate “dream game”.

When quizzed about how the Starfield adventure would kick off in the game, Howard explained that the gamers would join the last known group of Space Explorers and begin searching for artifacts, as he gingerly called it a mashup between “NASA meets Indiana Jones”. Todd then went on to explain how the game’s storyline takes gamers to a lot of places, filled with surprises that nobody’s talked about yet. Todd ended by saying he was quite happy with how the story has panned out for the game.

Todd also mentioned his team put up a theater with 300 seats for the guests and fans to check out Starfield‘s opening sequence. He went on to explain the sequence would show a minor who comes across an artifact that affects the character and shows them a glimpse of space-time. The adventure then kicks off once gamers create a character of their own. Todd mentioned that the gamers will have the freedom to create “whoever you want” and they will then be off on their adventure.

As for the storyline itself, Todd chose not to reveal too much else and expected the gamers to experience the adventure on their own. Starfield‘s leaked achievement list has an achievement that requires players to visit 100 planets, which doesn’t sound too far-fetched as the game is said to feature almost 1000 planets with around 10% of them being habitable. Our own Solar System is also said to feature in the game, including our farthest neighbor in the system, the dwarf planet Pluto.

Starfield’s Early Reviews Have Been Quite Positive

If the early reviews are anything to go by, the game looks like a smash hit for Bethesda. Industry Insider, @MyTimeToShineHello, posted on his social media account stating he has news that early Starfield reviews have the game surpassing all expectations in terms of its gameplay. The masterpiece is said to have a few bugs but the overall graphics and gameplay have been praised a lot, meaning gamers can expect a visual treat once they get on the adventure.

To get that full experience, desktop gamers might just need to shell out on a high-end rig, as per the recommended system requirements listed on Steam. Starfield‘s recommended system requirement for the full 4K 60 FPS experience requires either the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or Intel’s 10th gen i5 processors with a minimum of 16 GB RAM and 125 GB of free space available for the game to be installed. As for the graphics requirements, the recommended cars are the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or NVIDIA’s RTX 2080. Starfield releases in the US on the 6th of September, later this year.
