Orlando Bloom has made a solid reputation for himself in the industry over the past couple of decades. Endowed with sublime acting skills and devilishly handsome looks, Bloom has played iconic roles such as that of Legolas in The Lord of the Rings movies from 2001 to 2003, and then again in The Hobbit film series (2012-2014), and that of Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies from 2003 through 2007.
SInce Bloom last played as Turner, the franchise has undergone a lot of change. New movies have been released while the prime role of Captain Jack Sparrow, played in iconic fashion by Johnny Depp, was rendered vacant as Depp faced libelous charges by his ex-wife Amber Heard, after the posting of which he was removed from the role.
Orlando Bloom eager to reprise Pirates of the Caribbean role
Bloom had last featured in the Pirates of the Caribbean as the blacksmith Will Turner in At World’s End (2007), before the curse placed on Turner was lifted in the 2017 release of the franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales. Turner, the blacksmith who had left the anvil for a career in high-seas piracy, had been cursed to spend his time as the immortal captain of the Flying Dutchman at the bottom of the sea.
In an interaction with ScreenRant, Bloom asserted that he was looking forward to reprising the role of the colourful character.
“…I think Will [Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean]—I mean Will’s so great. I wouldn’t mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it’d be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he’s like.”
Fans would also be waiting eagerly to see how Turner turns out post-curse, as Orlando Bloom‘s comment seems to indicate the presence of a Pirates of the Caribbean 6 sometime in the future. One can only wonder about what’s coming.
Pirates of the Caribbean is looking at other significant changes, too
The casting of the Pirates of the Caribbean took a body blow when their charismatic ‘captain’, Johnny Depp, who played Jack Sparrow, was asked to relinquish the role of the pirate chief. This was a direct result of Depp’s legal troubles with his ex-wife and actor Amber Heard filing harassment charges against him. Depp eventually won the trial, but as of right now, doesn’t have the Sparrow role.
There is some speculation that wrestler-turned-actor and superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could take up the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Johnson is an easy-on-the-eyes presence both on and off the screen, and how he plays as the pirate chief makes for interesting debate.
Johnson has recently featured in Black Adam (2022), as a foray into the superhero universe. He is also known for his roles in Central Intelligence (2016) and the last two movies in the Jumanji series, in 2017 and 2019, besides countless other entertaining movies, although mostly in comic or non-serious roles.
