"It was time to stop": Johnny Depp Feels Disney Did Not Do Justice With Pirates of the Carribean Characters Despite Making Over $4.5 Billion From It

Johnny Depp might have put on a number of different faces on-screen, but his time as the eccentric yet witty pirate in Disney’s Swashbuckler film series will forever be one of his most memorable roles.  Even with equal quarts of skewed morality and sobriety, Captain Jack Sparrow’s peculiar charm and unmatched humor always managed to win fans over.

After five films though, Depp was ready to bid farewell to the beloved characters and conclude the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with a sixth movie. But when his infamous defamation lawsuit brought in a tempest of problems for him, the actor was left with no choice but to leave without saying goodbye, something which gnawed at him indefinitely

Pirates of the Caribbean – Johnny Depp Longed For A Fitting End

When his ex-wife Amber Heard slathered him with nasty allegations during their controversial lawsuit last year, Johnny Depp saw his professional life flash in front of his eyes. He could practically feel the edges of his painstakingly polished career go rusted. And when Disney severed its ties with him to safeguard the company’s reputation, the Academy Award-nominated actor saw his nightmare materialize after all.

But when Depp emerged victorious in the scandalous trial, Disney extended an olive branch in the form of a public apology, beseeching the actor to reprise his role as the iconic pirate Jack Sparrow in   Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Following this drastic plot twist, however, the Edward Scissorhands star refused to come back to the franchise, especially after bearing the brunt of such fervent disrespect. Even so, the bitterness of his abrupt exit didn’t disappear and Depp felt horrible about the unfinished legacy of the Pirates.

“My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye. A franchise could only last for so long, and there’s a way to end a franchise like that. And I thought that the characters deserved to have their way out of… to end the franchise on a very good note. And I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.”

For the longest time, everyone lamented his departure from the action/adventure film series, but it looks like there might be hope left after all.
