Being a visionary director, Christopher Nolan has had some mind-blowing ideas throughout his career. Even though the director has kept his movies mostly PG-13, there have been several instances where the director simply let his thoughts win.
Talking about the 2012 movie The Dark Knight Rises, the director had to delete a violent death scene to avoid an NC-17 rating! Talking about the death scene, actor Matthew Modine revealed the details and how sickening it was for him as well as Nolan to shoot the scene!
When Christopher Nolan Had To Delete A Violent Scene!
Talking about the 2012 movie, actor Matthew Modine, who portrayed the character of Peter Foley in the Christian Bale starrer, talked about his death scene. Recalling the scene to be so violent and sickening, the actor stated that even Nolan’s face was completely white after shooting it.
In an interview, Modine stated that in the original version, his character was meant to be hit by Talia al Ghul’s car after the death of Bane. Although that wasn’t something new, the blood and gore of the scene were enough for the movie to get an NC-17 rating!
“It was so violent that it would have gotten an NC-17 rating. All it does is, it just cuts, and I’m on the ground, dead. But it was so violent,” Modine added. “The guy that was doubling me got hit by the car. They put a plexiglass thing on the front of [the car] and he got hit.
The actor further added how the stunt turned into a nightmare for the stunt double as he was almost dropped from 15 feet in the air!
“They had ropes to pull him into the air, but he went up and they dropped him from about 15 feet, and the sound of his body hitting the cobblestone street in front of the New York Stock Exchange, it was sickening.”
After shooting the violent scene, Modine explained that Christopher Nolan was left traumatized. As per the actor, Nolan’s face had completely turned white and he was just hoping that the actor would be fine.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Has Left Historians Stunned
Kai Bird, who is the co-author of the book titled American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, recently shared his opinion of the film. The book that he co-wrote was a major source of inspiration for Christopher Nolan and as per Bird, he is still not recovering from the movie!
“I am, at the moment, stunned and emotionally recovering from having seen it. I think it is going to be a stunning artistic achievement, and I have hopes it will actually stimulate a national, even global conversation about the issues that Oppenheimer was desperate to speak out about how to live in the atomic age, how to live with the bomb and about McCarthyism, what it means to be a patriot, and what is the role for a scientist in a society drenched with technology and science, to speak out about public issues,”
With such silences and compliments, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is all set to release on 21st July 2023 in theaters across the world. As for the Christian Bale starrer, The Dark Knight Rises is available to stream on Max.
