"It was really, really hard": Jennifer Lawrence Struggled Badly to Work With Her Male Co-star in Her First Movie After Her Long Break From Hollywood

Jennifer Lawrence was once at the peak in Hollywood. There was a time in the early 2010s when Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, and Jennifer Lawrence were considered to be the future of the industry due to their immense popularity as a result of starring in Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games franchises.

Even though Watson and Stewart chose their own paths in the industry after their franchises ended, Lawrence decided on a different path. She took a break. But after she returned with Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, she found herself having trouble acting with her male co-star in it.

In a Vanity Fair interview for Dont Look Up (via Yahoo), Jennifer Lawrence, who played Kate Dibiasky in the film, talked about how difficult it was for her to act with Jonah Hill in the film. Not because they were fighting, but because of how funny Hill was. She said:

“It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing. We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing.”

The actress also complimented co-star and legendary actress Meryl Streep and said, “He and Meryl were the only ones who should do that kind of improv. I mean, he’s just a comedic master.” But this doesn’t mean that shooting the film with other co-stars was easy. In fact, Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio drove her crazy.

During an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that it wasn’t easy to work with Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet on Don’t Look Up. She said:

“I don’t know what it was… Timothée was just excited to be out of the house [after the pandemic lockdown]. I think it was, like, his first scene. And Leo had picked the song that was playing in the car and was just, like, ‘You know, this song was about, you know, blah, blah, blah.’”

The Red Sparrow actress further accentuated her frustration by saying, “I just remember being in absolute misery that day. It was hell.”  However, the Silver Linings Playbook star still said that she loved shooting with her co-stars. But that’s not all. She also talked about her break and said:

“I think coming out of The Hunger Games and all of that, it was nice. I took a break and nobody really cared and it was quiet… I got to feel like I could become a part of the world again without fanfare. Literal fanfare.”

So it looks like Jennifer Lawrence had the best of both worlds. She could enjoy her time off and then restart her career when everything was okay. The actress is starring in No Hard Feelings next.

Don’t Look Up is streaming on Netflix.
