The Bear Season 2 Took a Massive Risk by Casting Oscar Winner Jamie Lee Curtis Despite Show’s Shoestring Budget

The world can see a rampage during the audition process of many famous shows because of how eager actors are to become a part of it and The Bear saw something similar. In a world where trying to become an actor requires a lot of dedication and confidence, no one would try to miss out on a chance to get a role in a fan-favorite series. Therefore, it was not that big of a surprise when the casting call for the second season of the series began.

The number of people who reached out to the director was not even countable that easily and the entire process of casting was more than enjoyable for everyone involved. Despite having such little information about the characters they were auditioning for, actors and actresses were more than keen on participating in the show.

There Was No Script Reading For Those Auditioning For Season 2 Of The Bear

Jeanie Bacharach, the director of The Bear opened up about how the entire audition process went when the casting call for the second season of the series was announced. Due to so many potential candidates for the roles, many would imagine there to be a massive raucous during the audition process. However, it was far from it.

“This was not a big paycheck for anybody, it was not about money for anybody. It was really about wanting to be a part of this show. So I think you’re just taking a leap of faith knowing what you know about these actors and how they will come and land in this world.”

It was already common knowledge that none of the announced roles would have as high pay as many would desire. The director added that no one did any reading and everyone put their faith in these actors, including Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis. Bacharach pointed out as to how those who wanted the role knew the passion they had to put into it and were not trying out for the money they were offering.

Scripts For Both Seasons Of The Bear Were Prepared Early

When discussing how the casting process for the first and second seasons was different, Jeanie Bacharach confirmed that having scripts early on helped a lot. Moreover, having a core cast already ready and prepared made the task much easier.

The Bear

“We had almost all the scripts early on and that makes casting so much easier because they have an overall sense of the characters arcs; I get that, it helps me when I’m talking to agents or actors, that’s enormously helpful, and that’s not usually the case on a series.

The task at hand was to make the upcoming cast merge well with the already existing cast. Instead of pushing them down, these new cast members were meant to enhance what was already established and that is exactly what they did.
