In 2018, The Nun starring Taissa Farmiga became the 5th film to release in the popular horror franchise The Conjuring which also featured Annabelle as the other entry. The narrative follows the journey of the Demon Nun who is an incarnation of Valak from The Conjuring 2 in a plot involving a Roman Catholic priest and a nun who uncover an unholy secret in 1952 Romania. Interestingly, Taissa Farmiga’s sister Vera Farmiga is the main protagonist in The Conjuring franchise.

Over the years, horror movie fans have created many fan theories about the connection between both sisters and protagonists that goes beyond their mere presence and their physical similarities. Now, with The Nun 2 having opened in the theaters last weekend, it looks like both The Nun’s Sister Irene and The Conjuring’s Lorraine Warren’s fates might be intertwined after all.

What’s In Store For The Nun’s Sister Irene and The Conjuring’s Lorraine Warren?

Vera Farmiga and her sister Taissa Farmiga are prominent faces in The Conjuring franchise which had its first spin-off prequel in 2018 namely The Nun. Apart from their expected physical resemblance as siblings, the Farmiga sisters’ characters also seem to be deeply connected beyond the surface. For starters, both characters are seen to have had visions from God which sparked off initial theories about them being connected through their bloodlines. Director Michael Chaves spoke to Slash Film and confirmed that audiences might well be on the right track about the characters.

“I mean, I think from the beginning it was too much of a coincidence to have nearly identical sisters in the same movie. I think it was always part of the ultimate goal is to tie them in and I think that there’s always been a connection.”

The Nun director Michael Chaves hinted that there could be a connection between the characters of the two Farmiga sisters.

The Nun filmmaker also dangled another carrot in front of audiences by stating that there were significant clues regarding the connection between Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren in the film, if one looked at them in closer detail.

Is The Nun 2 A Better Effort Than The Nun?

When Michael Chaves’ The Nun was released in 2018, it received mixed reviews despite faring well at the box office. The main reason for this was due to the reputation of The Conjuring films which were critically appreciated. Now, Taissa Farmiga is back reprising her role as Valak with The Nun 2 and from the initial responses, the film looks to be a big improvement on its predecessor. According to reports coming in, the scares, the intensity, and the shocking third act all seem to be getting praise.

This time, the critics have also lent their support by showing their appreciation towards the film. Many experts commented on the quality of the jump scares that had them sitting at the edge of their seats while others lauded the intensity of the scenes that kept them engaged throughout.

The Nun 2 is currently running worldwide in theaters.
