Although Cillian Murphy earned his Hollywood reputation through Batman Begins in 2005, and his global fame through Peaky Blinders, he achieved major appreciation following his role in Oppenheimer. So much so, that his world-class fame after leading Christopher Nolan’s movie landed him a fan-casted role as a major Marvel villain.
Previously taking his dive into the superhero genre as the DC villain Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow in The Dark Knight trilogy, Murphy gave a brutally honest response to his recent fan casting. However, irrespective of what the Irish actor replied, Marvel fans seem to be thoroughly unhappy about the actor’s fan-casting.
Cillian Murphy Fan-casted As MCU’s Doctor Doom
Following the release of Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy achieved otherworldly fame that not only drove him into the spotlight but also landed him a fan-casted MCU role. After previously working with DC as Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, the 47-year-old discussed his take on Marvel.
Sitting for an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast host, Josh Horowitz, Cillian Murphy spoke about modern superhero movies. Responding to questions about his take on another comic book role, the Irish actor addressed his particular fan-casting as MCU’s new Doctor Doom. “If someone sends a script, I’ll read it. And you never know what turns up.” Murphy shared.
Discussing the “unpredictable and wild” nature of the entertainment business, Murphy recalled how he initially had no inclination for Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies. Thus, similarly, if given the opportunity and a nice script for the MCU role, he might play Doctor Doom. Although the Dunkirk actor previously mentioned, “My kids love the Marvel movies, but I don’t know. I don’t watch them”.
Fans Wreck Havoc Over Cillian Murphy’s Fan-casting
Amid Marvel Studios’ current hiring and audition of actors, as Cillian Murphy receives a fan-casting role as Doctor Doom, MCU fans and netizens break the internet with criticizing tweets. Expressing their unhappiness via social media posts, fans slam the unnecessary fan casting of Murphy.
Although it is still unknown if the 47-year-old actor will ever be offered an MCU role, or if he will even accept it, fans already seem to oppose it. Recalling how Murphy previously claimed he never watches Marvel movies, fans mentioned he’s not worth the role. While others simply stated their favorite actors for the role of Doctor Doom.
Despite fans’ criticizing tweets about the fan-casting, Cillian Murphy seems to be unfazed and simply relishing the spotlight, following his summer blockbuster Oppenheimer.
