In a past interview, the Pretty Woman star was talking about the controversy on the sets of her then-upcoming film Hook, where multiple crew members reported about her borderline unbearable nature and work ethic, which made everyone miserable and uncomfortable. While she may have mercilessly tried to deny the allegations, calling them false when the claims were out in the public, it was of little help. Amidst it all, she had assurance that Spielberg and her co-star the Late Robin Williams would support her, but to her surprise, the director didn’t comment on it at all. She said:

“I saw that and my eyes popped out of my head. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that this person that I knew and trusted was actually hesitating to come to my defense. It was a hard lesson to learn. It was the first time that I felt I had a turncoat in my midst.”

Therefore, by neither denying nor confirming the allegations, Roberts felt like she was betrayed by the director she had faith in the most.
