Plenty of things happen to be incomprehensible in theory but when put into practice, they turn out to be just fine, great even. Perhaps, that could’ve been the fate of A Star is Born if J. Lo and the Fresh Prince had starred in the romance/musical, which as it turns out, they almost did.
While it’s not surprising given how there have already been four remakes of the movie, it’s certainly intriguing that Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith went so far as to discuss “developing the script.” But alas, they never got the opportunity to materialize the prospect into reality.
Jennifer Lopez And Will Smith Almost Made A Star is Born Remake
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and helmed by Bradley Cooper, A Star is Born served as the fourth remake of George Cukor’s 1954 musical of the same name. Starring the Hangover star along with music icon and actress Lady Gaga, the 2018 version was a booming success both critically and commercially, grossing a colossal sum of $436 million worldwide. Safe to say, Cooper and Gaga, delivered stellar performances. Only if the stars had aligned, maybe then Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez would’ve been celebrating the film’s seven Oscar nominations instead.
In an old interview with Extras, Lopez, 53, revealed how the Bad Boys star and her had been talking about collaborating on A Star is Born remake, but unfortunately enough, the pitch never made it past its burgeoning stage.
“Will and I talked about it, talked about developing the script. It just never [happened] … projects are like that.”
However, her missed opportunity certainly didn’t deter the Hustlers actress from singing high praise for the award-winning movie. “I’m really proud of Bradley [Cooper],” Lopez remarked as she further went on to admire Gaga’s remarkable delivery in the film. “It’s perfect,” she said.
Sure, Lopez lost a potential blockbuster project which could’ve had her name on it, but hopefully, her forthcoming film that her husband’s production company is helping make will expiate for lost chances.
Jennifer Lopez’s New Film, Unstoppable, to be Produced by Artists Equity
Backed by RedBird Captial Partners, Artists Equity is a production company run by DCU star and producer Ben Affleck with his long-time friend and colleague, Matt Damon, operating as the Chief Content Officer. While the company’s first feature, Air, starring both Affleck and Damon is just a few days away from hitting the cinemas, the freshly-launched venture already has its eyes on their new project.
Currently titled Unstoppable, the film is set to star the Justice League star’s wife and renowned Hollywood entity, Jennifer Lopez with famous film editor William Goldenberg set to shepherd the sports drama. The movie is based on true events, drawing inspiration from the life of three-time All-American wrestler, Anthony Robles.
While no additional details about the cast or plot have been revealed, Unstoppable will mark Goldenberg’s directorial debut as well as Affleck and Lopez’s first professional gig post their marriage.
A release date is yet to be attached to the project.
