One Piece is one of the longest-running anime ever. It is also one of the best ever to be created. Eiichiro Oda started writing the One Piece manga in the mid-1990s, and the show first aired in 1999. Since then, it has introduced thousands of characters, with excellent back story and some fantastic graphics, along with good fight scenes.
The success of One Piece has made it popular even in Western countries. For that reason, Netflix thought it was a good idea to make it into a live-action show. One Piece live-action will air its first episode on 31st August 2023. Even before its release, One Piece fans started to ask for more accurate representation.
One Piece Fans Demand The Impossible
A bunch of hardcore One Piece fans have started to ask for the impossible. They want the One Piece live-action manga to be a 1:1 re-enactment of the anime. They think it can be achieved if more money is provided to the production team.
Moreover, VFX has become better tenfold in the last decade. One Piece enthusiasts feel that they need something more than just an adaptation after watching the show for more than two decades.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, personally said that it would be impossible to do a 1:1 re-enactment. One Piece live-action is based on the anime, but there are instances when each show should create its own aura. A full copy will not let that happen for the live-action.
Reaction to the Impossible Demand
Social Media has been in turmoil since this impossible demand. The official One Piece live-action page tweeted that it is impossible to do what the fans demand. There is a fine line between replication and expression. They want to go with the latter. The cast wants to give their best and live up to the fans’ expectations.
To this, the fans replied by saying that popular Hollywood franchises like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter did it. Fans are already calling the show to be a flop and want Netflix to do better. Some say it is already over before it starts.
Even after such negativity, some fans still believe it would be great. One Piece has been running for almost 25 years. Humanly it is impossible to achieve that kind of feat. Reports suggested that Oda was involved with the production, so there is still a bit of optimism among fans.
Is 1:1 Re-enactment Possible?
On paper terms, a 1:1 Re-enactment is very much possible. But will it be enough to satisfy the fans is the real question. Previously, Cowboy Bebop live-action and Full Metal Alchemist live-action tried to do the 1:1 re-enactment, but the live actions failed miserably. But a few fans still think that Eiichiro Oda will know what to do, and it is better to trust his intuition.
One Piece live-action will start streaming on Netflix on the 31st of August.
