Gunn, who’s going to direct the film, keeps a close watch on his Twitter and Threads accounts to demystify certain theories about the project. A new topic of concern for fans, however, seems to be revolving around the upcoming hero’s costume design.

While there are a number of things that should fall in place for a Superman film to register well with the fans, like the storyline and the casting choices, the costume design is undeniably one of the major highlights of the character.

Zack Snyder, in 2013’s Man of Steel, made some changes to the costume that Henry Cavill donned, and the design received mostly positive reviews. Snyder didn’t incorporate the classics, like the trunks and the Superman emblem on the cape, but Gunn may just bring them back.

James Gunn Possibly Working On Iconic Superman Cape Logo

Gunn has been actively putting out certain bits from Superman: Legacy as the film can be touted as a passion project of his. But that also means that he has a huge responsibility on his shoulders.

About the costume design, Gunn has, in his previous statements, mentioned that the movie will draw inspiration from the classics, which means that the trunks and cape logo could make a return.

We last saw these two features in the late Richard Donner’s era when Christopher Reeve wore the classic suit. For 36 years, the cape logo has been missing as it was last seen in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in 1987.

In reply, Gunn mentioned on his Threads account

“As we’ve done hundreds of designs, it is most definitely not that simple.”

James Gunn’s ambitions are becoming clearer with each passing day, but for now, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that the cape logo and the classic suit would be making a comeback. We’d have to wait and see which one, out of the hundreds, he ends up picking.
