In the past, many games have been adapted into live-action movies/TV shows like The Last of Us and Uncharted, however, Remedy Entertainment is not planning to go in that direction. The studio’s creative director, Sam Lake, has confirmed that they are focusing on improving their video games, rather than using their titles as a money-making opportunity.
With a lot of hype created around Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming game, Alan Wake II, fans have been wondering if the studio will ever create a TV show or a movie out of it. There are chances of that happening, but fans can expect its story to be loosely based on the game, rather than an accurate adaptation.
Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake says that they are focusing on improving their games
With so many video game studios focusing on creating a TV show or movie out of their famous titles, Remedy Entertainment is one studio that is still focusing primarily on their video games. In a recent interview with Inverse, Remedy Entertainment’s creative director, Sam Lake, revealed,
“We need to be bold enough and keep experimenting with interactivity in story and interactivity in visuals. We need to be making sure that we have creators or artists bringing in themes, topics, personality, and unique approaches that excite them,” adding, “For Remedy, it has been a clear strategy that we are building according to our own vision. We create the games that we are excited about, and find ways of building around that.”
Since 2005, there have been plans to create a movie based on the God of War video game franchise. Over the years, there were a lot of leaks but all the hype was finished when a Sony spokesperson confirmed in 2021 that there was no God of War film adaptation in development.
Now, once again there are rumors of a live-action television series as well as a film, which is rumored to release in 2024. Given the fan response to live-action adaptations of video games in the past, there are high chance that the studio is planning to release a project.

Will we ever get a movie/TV show based on the Alan Wake franchise?
Further in the interview, Lake smartly tackled the rumors about a movie/TV show based on the Alan Wake franchise. He said,
“In a fictional world, we can have a TV or a film. But maybe that film can just be a great film and live outside of the game as well. This layering of different mediums could make our fictional interactive experience world more real – and also bring together other art forms in a very ambitious way.”
If fans ever get a live-action adaptation, it’s safe to say that there will be some major changes in the plot. As of now, Remedy Entertainment is focused on Alan Wake II, which will be released on 27th October 2023 for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
