Jennifer Lawrence is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished actors in the industry. The Hunger Games actor went on to win several accolades at a pretty young age and the actor is thriving still with her groundbreaking performances.
After being nominated for her first Oscar for her performance in Debra Granik’s 2010 movie Winter’s Bone, Lawrence finally held the award in 2013 for Best Actress in a Leading Role in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. However, her Oscar win left some pretty horrible memories as well.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar Embarrassment
Sometimes, Oscar events unknowingly create embarrassing moments for some celebrities. Jennifer Lawrence has also been a victim of the same. Lawrence was 22 when she won an Oscar, and as she was ascending towards the stage wearing a stunning pale Dior Haute Couture gown. Lawrence fell on the steps, and although she immediately had help to get up, the memories of the moment left the actor in a pretty embarrassing state.
Of course, Lawrence deserved the award and the crowd knew that too. While Lawrence was on stage before the microphone for her speech, the crowd gave a standing ovation with a round of applause. However, the actor joked saying that the standing ovation was for the fall, not her performance on screen. “You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell — it’s really embarrassing. This is nuts!” Lawrence said. Later, appearing on the Absolutely Not podcast, the actor shared her humiliating experience:
“It was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to give a speech like that again, so it didn’t feel good for me not to have a speech.”
Further, many fans and haters have called her Oscar fall fake and that was even more upsetting for the star. The Red Sparrow star eventually moved on but it was a bruise that only time would heal.
Jennifer Lawrence Confronted Anderson Cooper Who Claimed Her Fall Was Fake
Moving on from that embarrassing event was not easy. Also, it has grabbed the attention of global fans pretty quickly. The actor later revealed that she confronted American broadcaster Anderson Cooper who claimed her fall was fake. “I saw him on CNN three days [after the Oscars] saying, ‘Well, she obviously faked the fall,’” Lawrence said.
“My friend told me a vein was bulging out of my eyes. He apologized. I think we’re good friends now. On my end, we’re all good. What I led with was, ‘Have you ever tried to walk upstairs in a ball gown? So then how do you know?’ He apologized immediately and said he didn’t know and gave this wonderful apology. I was all fired up … He probably told everyone I was a psycho.”
The No Hard Feelings actor further said that she would “give anything to be able to go back and redo that moment” The fall startled the actor and “made me forget my speech and made me forget to thank important people,” she told Howard Stern. Further, she acknowledged the fact that she made the mistake of not thanking David O. Russell as she believed she owe a lot to the director.
