Clooney co-star Michelle Pfeiffer recalled that the actor showed up to the set smelling like a brewery, which the Oscar winner attributed to a night of heavy drinking with his friend Rande Gerber while he was in town.
Despite having the day off, Clooney confessed to being pretty hammered when he arrived on set the next morning. He explained,
“We stayed up and had a few vodkas or something. Then I came home at 1 in the morning, and I’m like, Oh s—. I was pretty hammered. I woke up at 5 in the morning. I was like, I feel OK. Then I looked in the mirror, and I was like, Oh, I’m still drunk.”
The discussion then shifted to the disappointing box-office performance of One Fine Day. Pfeiffer, who not only starred in the film but also served as an executive producer, revealed that the studio had moved up the release date from February to Christmas, leaving them with little time for proper promotion.
She also said that the movie had tested well, but the studio’s “got a little cocky” and overconfidence backfired, resulting in a lack of notable press.
The artist acknowledged the film’s underperformance, noting that “It bombed.” He also mentioned how perceptions of the movie have changed over time, with his wife and her friends expressing disbelief that it wasn’t a big hit.
