Jason Momoa is slated to appear in the second installment of Aquaman in December this year. While he spends his time protecting humanity from threats underwater and on the surface, that doesn’t stop him from taking on roles that can push his limits on another side of the fence.
Recently, Momoa starred in a long-running franchise alongside some of the most talented A-listers in Hollywood and gave them a really tough time. But, despite his majestic debut in the film, it has struggled to get the numbers in at the box office.
According to a Tweet from @CultureCrave that comes via Variety, it hasn’t been able to go beyond the collections of the sixth installment which came out 10 years ago. But, fans have been wondering if it’s not Jason Momoa after all. Is it because of his Aquaman co-star – Amber Heard?
Did Amber Heard Fail This $7.3 Billion Franchise?
Amber Heard, after appearing in small-budget films like 3 Days to Kill (2014) and Pineapple Express (2008), got her massive deal that came in the form of 2017’s Justice League as Princess Mera opposite Jason Momoa.
She then went on to reprise her role in 2018’s Aquaman in a much greater capacity and the film collected $1.14 billion in global sales. But the years that ensued put her career and her reputation at risk. We’ve all witnessed her legal fiasco with ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Not to mention, filmmakers would want to steer clear of Amber Heard. Made on a staggering budget of $340 million, the tenth installment of this mega-franchise accumulated $719 million. Heard’s co-star’s performance garnered much appreciation from fans, but it appears as if she may have jinxed it.
Surprising Reasons Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes Didn’t Sell
As per ScreenRant, there are a couple of reasons why Jason Momoa’s debut in Fast X alongside Vin Diesel didn’t work out as expected. Is Amber Heard one of those?
One major reason was that the franchise peaked with the seventh and eighth installments collecting $1.5 billion and $1.2 billion respectively; the current fan sentiment concerning franchise films was another. Franchise fatigue is a real thing!
