Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has finally arrived and Spidey as well as Miles Morales fans couldn’t be happier. The film is receiving almost unanimous praise across social media platforms and is slated to bag a high opening day. As such, it looks like the film lived up to its hype, and general comic book fans couldn’t be happier.
So does this mean everyone can put down their pitchforks and bury the topic of superhero movie fatigue? When MCU’s first Phase 5 film, Ant-Man 3, failed to cross even $500 million globally, a feat its two prequel films accomplished, it shocked everyone. This, coupled with the poor reception of MCU’s Phase 4 made everyone ask if the days of superhero films reigning the box office were truly over. That thankfully didn’t turn out to be true.
As James Gunn had once said, there’s no superhero fatigue, just fatigue of poor superhero films, and his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 proved his words right. The film received great reviews and even greater word-of-mouth that propelled it to $745 million worldwide, and it’s not done earning yet. The recent release of Across the Spider-Verse has proven Gunn’s words again.
As per Deadline, the film has scored a $51.7 million opening day, making it the best opening day of 2023. This is higher than even GoTG 3’s $48.1 million. The film also holds 95% and 97% as Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience scores respectively. As such, it’s poised to earn a lot. Even fans think that superhero films are back on again.

Whether it was Marvel fans or DC ones, everyone was worried that the back-to-back poor box office performances of films like Ant-Man 3, Black Adam, and Shazam 2, coupled with the poor reviews of Thor: Love and Thunder, etc., meant that the days of superhero cinema was coming to end. But after Across the Spider-Verse and GoTG 3, fans believe that there’s hope yet.
