While it might be easy to kill monsters as Geralt of Rivia and save the world as Superman, in reality, it’s a bit hard for Henry Cavill. Especially since the actor almost ruined his career after blurting out things and offending feminists, following his 2018 interview with GQ Australia.
In the aftermath of the #MeToo movement, Henry Cavill was asked about his opinion on the same, and what he might have learned from the movement. Without realizing the gravity of his words, the British actor passed comments and shared remarks that immediately caused a backlash, leading Cavill to apologize.
Henry Cavill’s Concerning Comments On Flirting
After the #MeToo movement started gaining widespread attention in 2017, several abusive celebrities came to the forefront, while the righteous ones were simply asked for their opinion on the same. Thus, Henry Cavill was asked about his opinion on the MeToo movement and what he might have learned from it.
During an interview with GQ Australia, the actor opened up about his opinion on the active MeToo movement. While addressing the fact that men’s abusive behavior must change, Cavill voiced his concerns about flirting in the post-MeToo era. “Stuff has to change, absolutely…but there’s something wonderful about a man chasing a woman. There’s a traditional approach to that,” Cavill stated.
“I think a woman should be wooed and chased, but maybe I’m old-fashioned for thinking that. It’s very difficult to do that if there are certain rules in place. Because then it’s like: ‘Well, I don’t want to go up and talk to her, because I’m going to be called a r*pist or something’.”
Opening up about his concerns regarding the post-MeToo era, while criticizing the ones who humiliated and abused women, Cavill pointed out the pros and cons of the movement. While Cavill’s conversation with GQ Australia hovered in the air for a moment, his comments subsequently drew criticism on social media.
Henry Cavill’s Derogatory Remarks Offended Feminists
Following Henry Cavill’s concerning remarks about flirting in the post-MeToo era, the actor seemingly offended a few people. Finding his concerns pointless, feminists thus began slamming the actor for his derogatory comments. Soon, the outrage started taking such a ginormous shape, that the Superman actor was forced to apologize for his words.
Going public, in order to avoid “any confusion and misunderstanding” that his remarks might have caused, Henry Cavill apologized to end the issue. Sharing a statement, the actor mentioned, “insensitivity was absolutely not my intention”. He further added,
“In light of this, I would just like to clarify and confirm to all that I have always and will continue to hold women in the highest of regard, no matter the type of relationship”.
Apologizing and confirming his support for the #MeToo movement, Henry Cavill tried to handle the delicate situation that might have ruined his career and reputation.
